TAYLOR AHEARN

Ahearn is a professional baseball player and instructor at Cutternation... Grew up playing little league at West Hills Little League, formerly known as Santee American LL... He then went on to play Pony baseball at Lakeside Pony.

 

YOUTH SUMMER BALL: Played for the San Diego Stars (2007-2010) and San Diego Gamers (2010-2013).

 

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2013 graduate of St. Augustine High School… Named All-Eastern League all four years… Eastern League Player of the Year his senior year… All-CIF second team… Led team to two Eastern League Championships (2011 & 2013)… Two-time San Diego Union Tribune All-Academic Team… School’s all-time doubles leader (45)… 2013 Saint Augustine Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year… 2013 Saint Augustine Distinguished Scholar Award recipient… Graduated with a 3.94 GPA.

In high school, Ahearn never pitched for an entire season until his senior year… He finished his senior year with a .402 batting average, 4 home runs, and 41 hits in 33 games played… As one of the team’s starting pitchers, he ended the season with 6-2 record, 51 innings pitched, a 2.06 ERA, and a 35/14 K:BB ratio.

 

COLLEGE: Walked on at Siena College as a two-way player in 2013 and played there for two seasons... In 2014, Ahearn pitched 5 innings in the MAAC Conference Championship and got the win, securing Siena College a bid to a NCAA Division I Regional… In that same regional, Ahearn was a part of Siena’s first ever NCAA regional win in school history against Dallas Baptist. 

Following his sophomore season, Ahearn transferred to Cal State San Marcos and played from 2016-2017... After never really developing as a pitcher, Ahearn had his best collegiate season as a senior... He led the CCAA conference in regular season innings pitched that year at 99IP, with a 4.08 ERA, 4 complete games (2 shutouts), a 75/20 K:BB ratio, and 1 save.

Most notably that season, Ahearn was named NCBWA West Region and CCAA Pitcher of the Week for April 3-9 after collecting two victories in the Stanislaus State series, picking up a win in relief in the series opener before throwing a complete-game shutout the next day… On his senior day that same season, Ahearn pitched 2.1 shutout innings in Game 1 if a doubleheader, then hurled a 7 inning complete game in Game 2… Ahearn graduated from CSUSM in 2017.

 

COLLEGE SUMMER BALL: Played for the Elmira Pioneers in 2014 and 2016… Selected to the 2016 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League All-Star team … Starting pitcher for the West in the 2016 PGCBL All-Star Game … Named to the 2016 All-PGCBL second team.

 

PROFESSIONAL: Drafted in the 32nd round (971st pick) of the 2017 MLB Draft… Played in the Red Sox organization from 2017-2018… In 2017, Ahearn began his career in the GCL, pitching his way to a promotion to the Lowell Spinners, the Class-A short season affiliate, where he finished that season… In 2018, Ahearn began the year in extended spring training, eventually bouncing around between Low-A and Advanced-A affiliates for the entire season… Ahearn finished the 2018 season with his best performances being in Advanded-A Salem… After being released by the Red Sox following the 2018 season, Ahearn went on to have his best professional season with the River City Rascals in the Frontier League (Independent pro)... In 2019, he started 11 games (12 games played) and finished the regular season with 74 innings pitched, a 3.04 ERA, a 72/17 K:BB ratio, a 1.000 WHIP, and a .205 opponent batting average against… Ahearn and the Rascals went on to win the 2019 Frontier League Championship, beating the Florence Freedom in the 5th game of a 5 game series, where he pitched 2 crucial innings of relief to help secure the victory. 

 

After the 2018 season, he developed an injury and decided to seek help with his mechanics and motion… After joining Cutternation in March of 2018, he was able to correct the injury over time and obtain more efficient throwing patterns/skills to maximize health and longevity... After continuing to train following his 2019 season, Ahearn was the first Cutternation athlete to break the 100mph mark (101) for run and guns… Continuing to train and coach at Cutternation, Ahearn hopes to achieve 95+ mph on his fastball and infiltrate the MLB affiliated ranks once again for a chance at the big leagues.
